How to

Tagging the People You Ate With

Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 3 min read

Most good meals happen with other people, and a rating left by one person at a table of four records one opinion out of four. Tagging fixes that, carefully.

What happens when you tag someone

You tag the people you ate with. Each of them gets a notification, and tapping it opens a screen showing what you rated the meal — attributed to you — with the option to post their own.

That attribution is not decoration. Somebody opening the screen sees "Cian gave this 5 stars" before anything else, so a rating they then post is one they chose, not one they inherited by tapping through.

Nothing is ever posted on your behalf

The notification cannot itself become a rating. It opens the screen and does nothing else, and every action lives on the screen after you have seen the stars. A push notification is tappable from a locked phone, and a system where one tap publishes a five-star review in your name — into a venue's public average — is not a system anybody should trust.

You can be at the table without rating

Accepting a tag does not have to mean posting a rating. You can simply be recorded as having been there: "was at Kinara with @cian", with no stars, no dishes and nothing counted towards the venue's score.

This is deliberate, and it is what keeps the score honest. Being somewhere is not an opinion about it. A presence carries no vote, earns no badge credit and changes no average.

Declining tells nobody

If you decline a tag, the person who tagged you is not notified. No "so-and-so declined" message exists anywhere.

A decline that pings the tagger is a decline nobody makes, and the feature quietly turns into pressure to rate. You can ignore a tag entirely and nothing happens.

Who you can tag

People you follow, where neither of you has blocked the other. Not a phone contact list, not anyone with an account — people you already have a relationship with on Mosey.

When it is worth doing

  • A group dinner where the dishes went round the table and everyone has a view
  • A place you took someone to and want on both your maps
  • A meal you would not have found without the person who suggested it

Questions

Common questions

What happens when someone tags me in a rating?

You get a notification. Tapping it opens a screen showing what they rated the meal, attributed to them, and you can post your own rating, be recorded as having been there, or ignore it.

Can someone post a rating in my name?

No. The notification only opens a screen, and nothing can be posted until you have seen what they said and chosen for yourself.

Do I have to rate a place to accept a tag?

No. You can be recorded as having been at the table with no stars at all. Being somewhere is not an opinion about it, so a presence counts towards nothing.

Does a presence affect the venue's rating?

No. It carries no vote, earns no badge credit and changes no average.

What happens if I decline?

Nothing, and nobody is told. There is no "declined" notification anywhere in Mosey.

Who can I tag?

People you follow, where neither of you has blocked the other. It is not your phone contacts.

Can I be tagged by someone I do not follow?

They need to follow you. It is a relationship you already have rather than an open inbox.

Is there a limit to how many people can tag me?

Yes, there is a cap on how many tag notifications one person can receive, so your notifications cannot be flooded.
